SwissTech Convention Center (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland:
The STCC is an iconic facility which opened in April 2014 on the campus of the prestigious École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Designed by Richter Dahl Rocha & Associates, this large and futuristic metal ‘shell’ construction is characterized by its commitment to sustainable development. Almost completely booked in its first year of operation and in subsequent years, the STCC is rightly considered an important milestone for the EPFL. As one of the most flexible facilities in the world, it can rapidly configure halls with capacities ranging from 330 to 3000 seats. It can be automatically converted from a conference auditorium, an exhibit hall or a banquet room. The transformation process takes place in only 12 minutes using a remote control panel.
Dr Philips Center for the Performing Arts, Orlando, FL, USA scheduled to open in 2020:
The long-awaited Steinmetz Hall shall soon complete the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts project in the heart of downtown Orlando. Designed by Santa Barbara’s Barton Myers Associates (design architect), HKS Architects of Dallas (executive architect), and Orlando’s Baker Barrios Architects (architect), the Centre is a stunning glass building that aims to provide locals and visitors access to entertainment and convention spaces. Equipped with a Gala Venue® transformation system, the hall will optimally showcase different forms of performing arts, from opera to symphony to ballet, creating the best event experience for both performers and attendees. Specifically, 21 rows of automated seating risers, powered by Spiralifts® mechanical lift columns, will allow for variable theatre’s stage extensions and orchestra pit sizes. More than 400 reconfigurable seats can also be deployed via a rotation system or stored in an inverted position under the floor when not required.
Lakhta Center, Saint-Petersburg, Russia scheduled to open in 2020:
The Lakhta Center is an 87 story skyscraper, the tallest building in Europe, built in the outskirts of Saint-Petersburg, Russia. The building was designed by Tony Kettle, author of the design, while at RMJM. The project was then continued by GORPROJECT. The Lakhta Center is intended to become the new headquarters of Gazprom. The Gala Venue® system accentuates flexibility and adaptability of this futuristic HQ Building space and maximizes its efficient usage by different format content and capacity. For each event the hall provides for compliant acoustical, technological and logistical requirements.
V-A-C Foundation, Moscow, Russia scheduled to open in 2020:
V-A-C Foundation was established in Moscow in 2009 by Leonid Mikhelson, under the Directorship of Teresa Iarocci Mavica. The project for V-A-C Foundation provides for a cultural, exhibition and educational center to be set up in a historic power station dating back to the early 1900s. The entire area of 20,000 square metres is being redesigned by Renzo Piano Building Workshop. Gala Systems products are an important part of the renovation of this historic site and contributed to convert it into a world-class multi-use performing arts space.
